Stochastic Labs Fractal Art Workshop

I (Thomas Ludwig / lycium) got invited to Stochastic Labs in Berkeley, California for half of the summer to work on 3D fractal rendering technology, during which they graciously agreed to host an impromptu fractal art meetup! A good time was had by all, and we've tried to keep as much of the data produced as possible.

Dev update, forum back online

Sorry for the radio silence, an update is certainly overdue!

Chaotica is still being developed, we had to put some time into Indigo Renderer 4, but the long-awaited Indigo 4 Beta has been released and Chaotica development is back in full swing. Indigo and Chaotica share a lot of code, and the upcoming GPU support for Chaotica uses technology originally developed for Indigo, so there's a lot of shared benefit.

Chaotica 1.5.5 now available

After a long holiday pause (belated happy new year everyone!) and period of focusing on Indigo Renderer, it's finally time to officially release Chaotica version 1.5.5. It has been available on the Mac App Store for some time already, where usually the version on our website is a little ahead.

The changes in this version are relatively minor but still quite important (e.g. confirmation dialog before exiting), and the improved animation playback performance is hopefully useful for everyone.

Multi-GPU madness

It's been a while since I've posted about Chaotica's forthcoming GPU acceleration support, and there's some exciting recent progress that's definitely worth sharing!

Camera animation and many fixes in 1.5.1

Chaotica 1.5.1 is now available from the download page, and has been submitted to Apple for review and immediate release on the Mac App Store. Camera animation / keyframing support has been added, besides a number of important improvements and fixes.

Simply adjusting the camera position, scale and orientation while moving the timeline allows you to create awesome motion-blurred camera animations:

Version 1.5 dev update

Hi guys, a quick development update here from me (lycium) since it's been so long!

Chaotica 1.5 development has been coming along nicely, but the scope of the changes just keeps getting bigger and bigger; the main feature is of course animation support, but this requires quite a lot of changes throughout the rest of the program. For example, the camera model that was in use previously was basically bogus, and this showed up quite a lot while trying to animate it, so it needed replacing while still maintaining compatibility with old params.
