Post subject:  Simple fractals? not possible?

Hi,

I've been using Chaotica since beginning of the year and although I am very comfortable creating animations and using the transform/shaders/pallette/selectors functionality I feel that I am not fully taking advantage of this tool. I also have basic World Editor knowledge that lets me adjust parameters to make animations.

Specifically I am unable to create a simple Mandelbrot or Julia render from scratch. And by that I mean a plain vanilla Mandelbrot without any funky parameters.

I searched all of the tutorials here and DeviantArt and honestly there is not one example how to do this. For me these two fractal types are the baseline into the world of fractals. If someone had an in-depth World Editor tutorial starting with Mandelbrot and then tweaking it from that starting point I think it would help a lot of people.

thoughts?

Mandelbrot and Julia are a different kind of fractal. That type is called "Escape Time Fractals".
Chaotica's kind of fractal is called "Iterated Function Systems".
You can read about the kinds of fractals in wikipedia. (click this link)

You can't really produce Mandelbrots or Julias like you know with Chaotica.

Hi,

But there are some variations and examples in Chaotica that do show mandelbrot or julia as part of IFS renders. How is that possible?

thanks, i'll read up on the differences.

Hi, you can actually create classic Julia and Mandelbrot fractals with Chaotics, mainly utilizing the linear function and duplicating a simple object like a circle or sphere. I've been able to create the Pythagoras tree, Julia, Mandelbrot, and the Koch Snowflake. I use these classics as bases for my complex art pieces. You can see them on my art page.
